Jambalaya"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I worked in Houston for a few years after college. &nbsp;I have to say that I did not like the place. &nbsp;One of the few positive things was that I got some exposure to cajun food.<\/p>\n<p>This is an easy version of the dish, it is not quite as rich as many jambalaya dishes and maybe not as &#8216;cajun&#8217; as some would want, but it is the one I make most often. &nbsp;I try to use my own&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kaylasdoghouse.com\/kitchen\/2016\/10\/27\/chicken-broth\/\">chicken broth<\/a> when possible, it helps make up for the other block;\">Peel and de-vein the shrimp. Set them aside in a refrigerator<\/span><\/div><\/li><li id=\"wprm-recipe-211-step-0-1\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\"><div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\" style=\"margin-bottom: 5px;\"><span style=\"display: block;\">Using &nbsp;medium dutch oven, heat the oil over medium-high heat. &nbsp;Add the flour and whisk constantly (but don't let the hot oil hit you) until the mixture is brown.<\/span><\/div><\/li><li id=\"wprm-recipe-211-step-0-2\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\"><div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\" style=\"margin-bottom: 5px;\"><span style=\"display: block;\">Add the celery, onion and green pepper. Saute about 5 minutes<\/span><\/div><\/li><li id=\"wprm-recipe-211-step-0-3\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\"><div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\" style=\"margin-bottom: 5px;\"><span style=\"display: block;\">Add the ham and continue to saute until the vegetables are tender.<\/span><\/div><\/li><li id=\"wprm-recipe-211-step-0-4\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\"><div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\" style=\"margin-bottom: 5px;\"><span style=\"display: block;\">Add the chicken broth, spices and herbs, and tomatoes. &nbsp;Stir and bring to a boil.<\/span><\/div><\/li><li id=\"wprm-recipe-211-step-0-5\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\"><div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\" style=\"margin-bottom: 5px;\"><span style=\"display: block;\">Add the rice and stir the mix well. &nbsp;Then cover, reduce heat to low, and simmer 20 minutes. &nbsp;If the rice is not tender simmer a bit longer.<\/span><\/div><\/li><li id=\"wprm-recipe-211-step-0-6\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\"><div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\" style=\"margin-bottom: 5px;\"><span style=\"display: block;\">Add the shrimp. &nbsp;Stir, cover and let cook for 5 minutes.<\/span><\/div><\/li><li id=\"wprm-recipe-211-step-0-7\" class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction\" style=\"list-style-type: decimal;\"><div class=\"wprm-recipe-instruction-text\" style=\"margin-bottom: 5px;\"><span style=\"display: block;\">Serve nice and hot with good bread.<\/span><\/div><\/li><\/ul><\/div><\/div>\n<div id=\"recipe-video\"><\/div>\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is an easy version of the dish.
